Car Insurance Hyundai (Car Insurance). Chevy Cobalt Clicking Noise - What is it?

Chevy Cobalt Clicking Noise - What is it? My Cobalt has 38k miles on it. It's never been abused. My wife drives it and I maintain it. Yesterday, I was in it as a passenger and as we were traveling in a straight line on the interstate I could hear a distinct slapping sound. It's not brake related and it's not a front end problem. It sounded more like something flopping around erratically like a wire or a chain was hitting something. I jacked up each front wheel and spun them to and fro. The clicking noise can be head from either side. If it's a bearing it appears to be internal. My other guess is: It may be related to the traction control parts inside the case. Maybe a chain is hitting inside? Any other suggestions?

A/C compressor, bearings, axles, timing or crank shaft... if something flapping at the same time, check if all the body parts are in place... Struts. Is there something wrapped around a halfshaft, like a rag or length of wire? Or is there a foreign object in the fans? Hard to guess.

Hyundai . why are luxury car owners so pretentious?

why are luxury car owners so pretentious? i constantly see benz, bmw, jaguar, and escalade owners who seem to think they're above the law and everyhting else.where does this misguided sense of undeserved entitlement come from? they run stop signs, red lights, double park, and park in red zones.i know it'snot ALL of them, but certainly a noticeably high percentage of them who do this. then if they get pulled over by the cops, they of course have to say their same BS rhetoric regarding how they pay the officer's salary.and how "I make more in a week than you make in a year..."and all this completely unnecessary and demeaning crap.i guess this is a poor attempt to justifytheir inane reasoning for why they believe the law doesn't apply to them.and when these arrogant pricks buy these vehicles,is there a prerequisite that the potential buyer must be an obnoxious DICK in order to purchase one? th same thing can be said about ford mustangs. just look at all the people who own and drive them. this is not a coincedence either-virtually every 1990's- model mustang(especially 5.0's) are owned by the most pompous jerks, who almost always seem to be thugs. car insurance.

Hyundai . How to Charge the A/C System on a Saturn Ion

Over time, your Saturn Ion's air conditioner may begin to blow out warm air and not cool your vehicle off as fast as it once did or even at all. This is a sign that your air conditioning unit needs to be recharged. You can bring your Saturn to a mechanic, but this will result in a time-consuming job and an expensive bill. The alternative is to recharge your AC unit yourself by purchasing a can of R134a refrigerant at your local auto parts store. Recharging your vehicle's air conditioning only takes a few steps; and once you are done, you will be enjoying cool air once again.
Difficulty:Moderately Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
Owner's manual
R134a refrigerant with connector hose

Step by Step :
1
Allow the Saturn Ion's engine to cool off for at least a half hour before you begin any work under the hood to prevent burns.
2
Locate the air conditioning unit service fittings. The low-side fitting is located on the suction hose running from the accumulator to the compressor. The high-side fitting will be found on the hose that runs from the compressor to the condenser. Refer to your owner's manual for the exact location.
3
Connect the hose to the valve on the refrigerant can. Instructions are on the side of the can.
4
Turn the valve to the "On" position on the top of the refrigerant can. This will puncture the top of the can releasing a bit of air and coolant. Close the valve immediately to prevent loss of coolant.
5
Connect the service hose to the low-side fitting on the air conditioning unit.
6
Start the Ion's engine and turn the air conditioner to the highest setting. Open the service hose valve on the refrigerant can, which allows the coolant to flow into the unit and charge the system. Slide into the Saturn and feel the air blowing out of the vents; as the coolant charges the system, you should feel the air getting progressively colder.
7
Turn off the hose valve by turning the valve to the closed position. Turn the Saturn's engine off once the air conditioning is fully charged. You will be able to tell the unit is charged when the can is out of coolant or the air does not get any colder in the vehicle. Disconnect the can from the low-side fitting and close the hood of the Ion. Repeat this process any time your vehicle's AC needs recharging.

Hyundai . Problems With Underdrive Pulley Sets

Underdrive pulley sets are designed to drive the vehicle's accessories, such as the alternator, water pump, power steering pump and air conditioner compressor at a slower rate than the stock pulleys. The theory behind the slower speed for the accessories is the net horsepower is increased because the drag from the asseccories is reduced. The stock pulleys act as a drag on engine power. Underdrag pulley types are sold as an aftermarket modification kit. Poorly installed underdrive kits can cause problems in cars' performance.
Weight Issues
One way of achieving underdriving is to increase the size of the pulleys. Larger pulleys add weight on the accessory shaft, according to Orthodox Racing. This runs counter to the objective of increasing horsepower. Lighter weight stock pulleys decrease the drag on pulley shafts, thus, increasing horsepower.
Accessory Problems
All potential problems with an underdrive pulley stems from the accessory drives running at a slower than stock rate. Street to Strip says that problems are more likely to surface when the vehicle is idling. The charging system may be weak and the compressor may not produce as much power to run the air conditioning system as specified by the manufacturer. Most modern engines have electronic idle control mechanisms. One who attempts to change the calibrations of such mechanisms is likely to encounter problems, according to Street to Strip.
Overheating
A poorly designed underdrive set can leave one's vehicle open to an overheating risk. That is because the water pump pulley is turning at speed slower than the stock engine's idle speed might require for proper cooling, according to the "Reader's Digest Complete Car Care Manual" and Street to Strip. For example, a the 3.4 liter engine in an Oldsmobile Alero may have a warm idle speed of 900 RPMs. An underdrive pulley will have the water pump shaft turning at 500 rpm and that will not be enough power to move the coolant sufficiently.
Practicality
Underdrive pullies first appeared in the 1950s as a protection device for race car engines. Racing engines are run at higher RPMs for a longer period of time than the typical street car, according to the Underdrive Pulley Guide. The underdrive pulley was installed to prevent the accessories from being driven too hard at the high RPMs. A damaged accessory can cost a driver the race. The underdrive pulleys were installed to protect the accessories.
History
Modern underdrive pulleys are designed to reduce the engine power needed to turn the accessory pulleys, but their original purpose was to protect accessories from being driven too hard during an auto race. Underdrive pulleys did not become fashionable among car enthusiasts until the 1980s when the serpentine belt began to appear as the drive belt of choice for car manufacturers, according to the Underdrive Pulley Guide.

plug at the proper time. If the spark is insufficient, or if it arrives before or after the fuel/air mixture is at full compression by the piston, the result is less power and poorly burned fuel. Increased air pollution and fuel consumption is a high price to pay for stretching the intervals between tune-ups! Chapters 12 and 13 show you how to keep your electrical system and fuel system in tune. In a stratified charge engine In their efforts to design and build cars with a greater degree of fuel effi ciency, automakers have had to deal with a frustrating paradox. It takes a lean fuel/air mixture (one that has relatively little fuel in proportion to air) to provide maximum fuel economy and cut down on the hydrocarbons and 328 Car Insurance ford expedition 2007 201041

carbon monoxide that pollute the air, but it takes a rich mixture to attain greater power and cut down on nitrogen oxides, which also pollute the air. How could a vehicle enjoy the benefits of both mixtures while avoiding the pitfalls? One answer came in the form of the stratified charge engine: Stratified charge engines are basically the same as conventional internal combustion engines, with one major difference: Stratified charge engines provide both a lean mixture and a rich mixture of fuel and air to the cylinders, and they keep the two mixtures separated until the vital moment when combustion takes place. Then the spark plug fires the rich mixture, which in turn ignites the leaner mixture. Because the fuel/air ratio for a conventional engine is around 15:1, and a stratified charge engine can use a mixture as lean as 30:1 (some have even worked successfully with mixtures of 200:1!), you can see why these new engines have stacked up such sensational ratings for fuel efficiency and clean emissions. .Chapter 6: The Fuel System: The Heart and Lungs of Your Car The basic design of a stratified charge engine varies with the manufacturer. One of the most outstanding was pioneered by Honda in its CVCC. It used a pre-chamber (short for precombustion chamber) to keep the rich mixture from mixing with the lean one. The following steps explain how the four-

stroke power cycle works in a stratified charge engine: 1. Intake stroke: The cylinder head has a little chamber, called & pre-chamber, which has its own little intake valve. The spark plug is also located in this chamber. On the intake stroke, the little auxiliary intake valve opens and allows a very rich mixture of fuel and air to enter the pre-chamber. On the same stroke, the main intake valve opens up and brings a very lean mixture of fuel and air into the cylinder itself. Figure 6-18 shows a cylinder in a stratified charge engine during the intake stroke. Compare it to the conventional cylinder in Figure 6-14. 2. Compression stroke: The lean mixture is compressed at the top of the cylinder in the combustion chamber, and the two mixtures are brought into contact with one another. 3. Ignition stroke: The spark plug fires the rich mixture in the pre-chamber, where it burns fiercely and ignites the leaner mixture in the combustion chamber. This action forces the piston down and provides the power that moves the car. Because the lean mixture burns more slowly, the fuel is burned more thoroughly, which is why stratified charge engines get better mileage and put out cleaner exhaust fumes.

4. Exhaust stroke: The exhaust valve opens and sends the burned gases out of the car, via the exhaust system. Other stratified engines use a depression in the piston's surface to provide space for the rich mixture to be ignited, instead of a pre-chamber. This open chamber design has performed efficiently in a variety of vehicles. Iwbochmqinq Turbocharging means to use a blower or a turbine to force greater amounts of air into an engine's cylinders. At first, cars were turbocharged to perform better on race tracks, but when car manufacturers began to use smaller engines on larger cars to lighten their weight and conserve fuel, turbocharging provided a way to increase the engine's power so that these big cars wouldn't be sluggish on the road. 128 Part II: What Makes It Go?
